Highlights

The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians had been investigating the potential for hemp and hemp products to provide an economic stimulus to their people and communities. However, due to their isolation from hemp industry centers, they were unsure what the products should be produced and what path to take to produce those products.

They reached out to Iron Light to conduct a feasibility study on 5 different product categories they were interested in including hemp extracts, seed oil, protein, fiber and hemp fuels.

Iron Light engaged in research of the individual products pulling from industry publications, previous experience and leveraging the expertise of our network. Upon the completion of the research a study was drafted that included recommendations of specific products within the predefined product categories, market information, basic marketing strategy, technology/infrastructure requirements and personnel requirements.

The final report was sent to the tribal and ultimately reviewed by the tribal council which influenced their decisions on which products to focus on and what type of infrastructure and personnel are required to succeed.
