Pacific Southwest Holdings (PSWH) is a hemp extraction company based in Arizona with production focused on full spectrum distillate with an option for further processing to broad spectrum distillate and isolate.
The company contracted Iron Light to design and engineer its extraction facility, oversee staff training and consult with cGMP documentation and processes.

Pacific Southwest Holdings entered 2019 with a goal of extracting the various high value compounds from the hemp plant with a target goal of 5,000 pounds throughput per day. The final target product was intended to be a full spectrum distillate and potentially isolate. The company had a team and a facility but required outside help for the design and engineering of the system as well as support in order to follow cGMP standards and protocols.
Iron Light was brought in to develop and engineering package that the management team could use to purchase the necessary equipment and place that equipment at the facility.
The fist stage of the project was a visit to their facility in Arizona for a review of current conditions, layout and team meetings to outline and finalize specific project attributed. Following the trip, the design portion of the process began which included conducting mass flow calculations in order to determine proper equipment sizing. Once that was complete, individual components and pieces of equipment were researched and selected along with data sheets, manuals and pricing information.
All of this data along with PIDs, process flow diagrams, production narratives and supporting documents were put into a final plan and submitted to PSWH.
Equipment not included in the list was ordered and shipped to the site. A second visit was made with the intention of conducting an inspection with a focus on cGMP, equipment placement and to review all the different changes made to the original equipment selected. An in depth inspection summary was drafted complete with new process flows based on the changed PSWH made to the original engineering design as well as process flow narratives and checklist for all rooms and building regarding cGMP requirements, issues and means to remedy the issues.
Upon completion, PSWH was producing full spectrum distillate from various hemp sources at their facility and have been looking into the addition of broad spectrum distillate capabilities as well as the ability produce isolated compounds.
